Brittany Murphy’s husband Simon Monjack was laid to rest at his funeral in Los Angeles on Thursday. Approximately 75 mourners gathered for the private service, which was held in the same memorial chapel where the late Murphy was eulogized, says People.com. Following the service, Monjack was buried next to Murphy at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The site says a picture of the couple was placed by Monjack’s casket, and the ceremony concluded with a recording of Murphy, accompanied by Monjack on piano, singing “Smile.” “It was Simon’s wish to be laid to rest next to her,” family spokesman Roger Neal tells People.com. Neal says the memorial was “celebratory and healing,” and added that Murphy’s mother Sharon was one of the speakers at the service: “Sharon was very strong and spoke and about how much she loved Simon, and how now Simon and Brittany are together… She told them, ‘I’ll miss you my babies.’” Pending further investigation, police told ET that detectives believe Monjack died of natural causes last Sunday night.

The always-vocal Niecy donned some strategically placed duct tape and joined her “Dancing with the Stars” friends to protest Prop 8 with the NOH8 campaign – and we were behind the scenes of the photo shoot! “I think it’s very important to support a cause that fights for people’s rights,” says Niecy. “The image with the tape across the mouth is very powerful because it’s representative of people being silenced. You want to give everybody a voice.” Niecy and her pro partner Louis van Amstel were joined by such “Dancing” stars as Brooke Burke, Marlee Matlin, Marissa Jaret Winokur and Denise Richards, as well as “American Idol” star Kimberley Locke. “This is such a powerful message done in an artistic way,” says Louis. “It’s about equal rights for anybody, for any minority group — let’s stop hating.” A photo campaign founded by celebrity photographer Adam Bouska and his partner Jeff Parshley, NOH8 is a silent protest seeking to draw attention to the inequality of Proposition 8, which was passed in California back in November 2008, effectively banning same-sex marriage. Barbara Walters is sharing how she’s feeling while recovering from the heart-valve replacement surgery she underwent earlier this month. Walters had planned on emceeing an event honoring Placido Domingo at El Museo del Barrio’s annual gala at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City on Thursday. Instead, the recuperating “View” co-host wrote a letter to the famed tenor, which was read aloud at the ceremony by fashion designer Oscar de la Renta. “Dear Placido: Only an injured heart would keep me from being with you tonight,” Walters said in her letter to the special lifetime achievement award honoree. “You may have heard that I have had recent surgery to replace a faulty heart valve. I am doing very well but not quite ready to jump rope or go out. How I wish I could say these things in person.”
